Structural Alterations:

This scheme involved constructing a full height side extension and two-storey roof extension to a 100 year old existing traditional red brick industrial era building.

The original internal structure of timber beams, supported via cast iron columns, was found to be unsuitable to take the additional floor loadings of the extension and although remedial strengthening was considered it was found this approach was unfeasible. A decision was made to strip out the internal structure to construct a new internal steel frame, to work in combination with and also restrain the original external masonry elevations.
